The "Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge" requires participants to select one of two distinct sites for their proposed sculptures:
Tharwa Sea Front & Abu Hadriyah Road .
Each location presents a unique setting and set of opportunities, challenging designers to create works that thoughtfully integrate into their environment. The selected site should inspire participants to develop concepts that not only reflect Saudi Arabia’s cultural and historical narrative but also respond to the specific conditions and characteristics of the location.
Abu Hadriyah Road – A gateway to the gulf:
Located along Abu Hadriyah Road, this site is a major transportation corridor in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Stretching from the UAE border in the south to Kuwait in the north, this highway plays a crucial role in connecting Saudi Arabia with neighboring Gulf nations.
It serves as a primary entrance to Dammam, welcoming travelers from Khafji, Hafar Al-Batin, and Kuwait, and extends to the King Fahd Causeway, which links Saudi Arabia to Bahrain. The road also connects key economic and industrial centers, supporting King Abdulaziz Port and boosting commercial activity in the region.
Given its strategic significance, this site is ideal for a highly visible landmark sculpture that embodies the identity of Saudi Arabia while reinforcing its role as a hub for regional connectivity. The sculpture should create a striking visual presence, offering a powerful
symbol of movement, exchange, and development.
