The "Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge" requires participants to select one of two distinct sites for their proposed sculptures:
Tharwa Sea Front & Abu Hadriyah Road
Each location presents a unique setting and set of opportunities, challenging designers to create works that thoughtfully integrate into their environment. The selected site
should inspire participants to develop concepts that not only reflect Saudi Arabia’s cultural and historical narrative but also respond to the specific conditions and characteristics of the location.
Tharwa Sea Front - A new landmark by the Gulf:
Located in Tharwa District, a modern and well-planned area in Al-Khobar, situated between Dammam and Al-Khobar. Overlooking the Arabian Gulf, this waterfront location is known for its blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. It is home to the Tharwa Corniche, a scenic promenade that attracts both residents and visitors, as well as key landmarks like King Abdulaziz Port and Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. The district reflects the Eastern Province's steady urban growth, balancing modern development with the region's cultural and environmental heritage.
This site provides an opportunity to design a sculpture that enhances the character of the waterfront, reinforcing the area's identity as a destination for leisure, culture, and community gathering. The design should interact with the coastal setting, offering a landmark that resonates with both locals and visitors.
